People say that King Prithviraj Chauhan built this temple. When Prithviraj Chauhan was going to fight with King Chandel of Bundelkhand. He camped with his army at this spot. While digging a tent, he discovered a Shivalinga of Lord Shiva.
He worshipped the Shivalinga and asked for a boon: “If I win the battle, I will build a temple at this site.” Upon returning from defeating King Chandela, he built this temple and lit an eternal flame with ghee, which continues to burn to this day.
